dell 5100 mp fuse

My 12 volt out on my 5100 mp is not puting out 12 volts or 200 MA. Does anyone know if this little circuit is fused and/or know where a take apart manual can be found? i am out of warranty. I am sure I fried it mysef the first time I used it.  The cheap tiny dc jack from radio shack was shorted enough to make my screen go up and down at the same time the first time I tried it. Can anyone think of any creative other way to have this thing send a signal to my screen.
