Dell 1800MP Projector Problem

Here is my story:

I bought the Dell 1800MP Projector a little over a year ago.  All was fine, until my projector died.  The projector would try to start up,  but the end up with the lamp light lit yellow.  So I bought a new bulb from Dell and tried it.  I had no luck.

Now here is where I am very disappointed in Dell.   When I called them and asked them about why the bulb did not fix the problem, they told me to call there third party company that supports the projector FOR DELL.

When the company was called, I was told it would cost me $ 292 JUST TO LOOK at the projector with Parts and Labor Extra.   This is like highway robbery, when I asked the rep about if they would have replace the board how much it would cost, he told me it is company policy to Speculate on the cost.   So basically, if you send in your projector you are going to have to pay Whatever amount the third party company wants you to pay to get your projector back.   WELL DELL AND YOUR THIRD PARTY COMPANY, I SAY NO THANKS.

So my question here is, Does anyone know what may problem may be?  If so, where can I go to buy parts and fix it myself?   I am very handy around computer / electronics.

Thanks

Bob

i have a similar experience here. but my one is within warranty.

the bulb had gone with a usage less than 200 hours. i have replacement with me now. it is a second hand one, had been repaired before.

why dont you go out and collect quotes from market? there should be many shops are able to repair it. sorry i cannot be more helpful.

That's the problem with an out of warranty unit. Does the Lamp LED Lit solid or blinking? From the owners manual, only when the lamp light is solid orange than it is a lamp issue. Your projector should have other problems since a new lamp does not help. Please share if you know where to buy cheap parts.
