Dell 1800MP Projector Malfunction

Hello,

I'm currently attempting to run a new Dell 1800MP projector off of my laptop (Acer) via VGA (A), and USB 2. When I connected the USB 2 cable from the projector to my laptop, a pop-up bubble at the bottom-right of my desktop (Windows XP Home) says that "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it". I made sure that I started up the laptop (source) after I started up the projector. Initially, I seen the Windows XP loading screen on the projector screen, but as soon as I'm asked to log-in on my laptop, the projected image changes immediately to solid blue with the Dell logo, and smaller text that says "Searching for Signal...".

I tried adjusting the input on the projector manually as well, and made sure the the VGA cable (which was provided by Dell) was connected properly. I also tried two different USB 2 cables, and attempted to update the driver, but to no benefit.

I appreciate any help offered in advance. Thanks!

Just an idea, but are you sure your laptop is providing enough USB power? Some laptops, when they're not plugged into an AC outlet, provide less power on their USB ports. When a USB device doesn't get enough power, odd things tend to happen.

Hey there,
I have the same problem with my latitude d505 (2 years old) in combination with a NEC projector since a couple of months.
Collegues with d505 and the NEC projector have no problem.
I had no problem untill a couple of months ago.
And i have no problems with other projectors.

USB or not, it remains the same magnificent blue screen.

Who helps us?

Peter

Hi ttabi,

 Thanks for your reply :smileyhappy:

I'll have to give that a whirl, as I do have a fan running from one of the USB ports on my laptop - however, I was running the laptop from AC power, so theoretically it should have worked. I'll have to check that when I get a chance. Thanks again!!

Hi everyone,

I was having the same problem and after speaking to several tech support people, I finally found one who knew what to do!!! Try pressing the Fn key + F8 key. This happens especially on laptops on in which the settings are slightly different, even on Dell laptops which is what I purchased in conjunction with the projector. Hope this helps!
