Dell 1800 lamp problem
i bought this projector 6 months ago. i was a light and careful user. so far, until last night, the lamp had been used less than 200 hours and i used economic mode all the time.
the problem is that it stopped working last night and the yellow indicator was firm and according to the handbook, it means that i need to replace the lamp. i was so surprised. i always turned on and switched off the projector strictly as what the handbook said.
i am on one year warranty on the projector and 3 months on the lamp.
does anyone have this problem? my lamp was almost new one. it should last over 1500 hours.
is this poor quality of the lamp? or is this the fault of the projector?
can anyone help me???

Welcome to the forum. My guess is just bad luck, could you put your service tag into your profile (Please don't put your service tag or any other personal information in a post) so I can take a look at it?

Same problem with my projector also. However, my projector was 13 months old and out of warranty.
I suspect that Dell has a product defect, and hopes that it wouldn't appear until the projector is out of warranty. When I talked to Dell, this is the impression I got.
Best advice, call Dell and they will replace the projector.
If you do find out what is wrong could you email me exactly the problem, at intaccsys@aol.com.
Thanks
Bob

Projector lamps are just light bulbs, granted they are bright, focused light bulbs, but still just light bulb's. Light bulbs burn out, the life expectancy is just an estimate not a hard fact. That's why they aren't warranted for longer then they are.

I wish it was the lamp, but I see that as other have posted here, that it is more than the lamp. As a matter of fact, Dell will not even look into the problem but instead issue an exchange if in warranty, or tell you to go to a 3rd party if out of warranty, screw.
The fact is if the lamp light is on and if you try to replace the bulb and it does not work. The system is DEAD... NO REPAIR... Buyer Beware...

hi guys,
i did not know here are replies. i thought no one was watching this forum.
i called DELL. they sent me an exchange projector. however, it is an used and repaired one and it looks like a second hand one. i have been informed to send my one which is the one has problem back to DELL.
in the past two days, i put the lamp comes with the exchange into my one. it works. so, i can confirm that it is the problem of the lamp. on the other hand, i had only used it for less than 200 hours. i cannot be sure if it is the fault of the lamp due to bad quality or my projector is the cause of early expire of the lamp.
i do not really want to give up my own project as that it is almost a brand new one. can i just switch the bulds and return the "second hand" one back to DELL.
please help~~~

"a bad second bulb" ?? do you mind talk more about it?
Dell sent me a replacement projector. i have tested my projector by swapping the bulbs. i can conclude that the bulb in my projector has gone. however, i am not sure if it is the projector damaged the bulb or the bulb is just a faulty one.
i would like to know that can i just swap the bulbs and send the replacement projector back to Dell?
Thank you very much for your reply, Jimmy.

hi Bob,
i suggest you to extend the warranty. i am seriously thinking about this at the moment. i do not think i can trust this product anymore.
if you are inside warranty, DELL will replace your broken one with another repaired unit. how can i trust a repaired projector? how can i know how long it has been used by previous owner? how can i know how many times it had been repaired before it sent to me? how can i know the bulb in this replacement is a new one?
anyway, if your bulb stops working with low hours usage and you are inside warranty, you may have a chance to appeal to say that it is the fault of the projector, for example my case.
i am very sad that DELL replace my almost new projector with a second hand one. this is the warranty DELL provides. so, i think extend warranty is the only way out. at least you have a working projector for another 2 years.

Please enlighten me with this with the 2nd bulb. Dell was unable to help when my 1800MP was 13 months old and sent me to their 3rd party support company who wanted to drain me of over $ 290 just for looking at it.
So Save me the cash, since I tried a new bulb already with no luck.
Thanks
Bob
