Arcing and no power up on Dell 2300MP projector

Hi all,

I have an out of warranty 2300MP projector, which isn't working - expect a few of you can empathise!

In essence, when I plug the power cord in and switch on the power at the wall, I get some arcing, blue light and popping noise near where the cord attaches to the projector. The first few times it did this, the Projctor went through everal start up attempts then after about a minute stopped and the ornage lamplight came on. However, the last time the arcing was even more severe, i.e. louder and bigger flask of light, and it has blown the fuse in the plug at the end of the power cord.

It seems like I have 2 problems:

1. Arcing from power cord connection - I've read elsewhere that this is a result od poor projector engineering and a dodgy seatinf for the connection

2. Problems, when there is power, with the unit starting up although I know the lamp is working - I've read elsewhere this is a dust issue; however, I've cleaned the unit to no avail. Perhaps it's a result of the arcing frying something inside.

Can anyone comment/confirm this? If something is fried any ideas what it might be and how I can address it?

Cheers, Rich
