5100mp remote rf and/or IR

I want to purchase 5 of these projectors and will have them each in 5 adjoining conference rooms. I don't want the rf remotes to get confused with the other projectors. Can an IR remote control be substituted for the rf remote. Can the 5100mp accept ir. It appears as though there is an ir window on the front of the projector. Is that just for looks? Any help would be appreciated.
