Is there any way to get rid of the writing that is projected when you press the 'Blank Screen' button?

I thought a blank screen would be just that - a blank screen, not additional information splashed across the screen informing the user to press the 'Blank Screen' button again to reverse the process!

I find the message to be a real problem.  The projector gets used in a theater environment on a weekly basis.  We show various funny clips at various times during our preshow.   Between the clips we have stuff going on on stage so the projector can not be projecting anything (it looks pretty rediculus to have people performing on stage with that stupid message across their chests).  I can not turn off the projecter because of the time it takes to power up and cool down as well as all the power up messages and displays.  I finally resorted to putting my hand up in front of the lens.

So, how can I get a true blank screen (without using a black input source)?

Why not just put the cap on?

If I put the cap on, it will automatically close down after 10 seconds. It's part of the Data Projector's safety features or close down features, depending on how you look at it.

Putting the cap on turns off the projector.
