3100MP no power - can't turn on

We have a Dell 3100MP projector.  We are a small non-profit agency, and this projector gets shared between many people - and even though it looks in great condition, I can't rule out abuse / drop / or throwing it in the bag before it had a chance to cool down (even though I preach to let it cool down all the time)

Anyway, the projetor currently does nothing.  Plug it in - hit power button - nothing.  No lights, no nothing.  I first assumed the projector as a whole was broke.  But then I read in the manual that the projector will not turn on if the lamp is burnt out.  (now the lamp has not been replaced in a very long time.... surprised it has lasted this long).  

But we are a small non-profit, I really don't want to spend $350 ($150 on eBay) to test if this is the problem or not.

Is there any way that I can check to see if it is a lamp issue?  I removed the lamp to look at it, and it looks good (even though I don't really know what to look for) - but nothing seems burnt out or anything.

Anyway, any advice?
