2300MP Connections to Inspiron 9200

Two probably very simple questions:

 

1. Connection with D-sub to D-sub works. What additional functionality does the USB connection add?

2. When playing DVDs using laptop, the sound comes from the laptop, not the projector. Should there be an additional connection to the projector to use the projector speaker, and if so which one?
