2200MP won't start up

The basic problem: When I press the power button on my 2200MP it makes a whirring sound like it is going to start up but nothing happens.  It whirs back down and whirs back up again.  This cycle goes on for 3-5 times and then the amber lamp light comes on and the fan starts up.  On top of this the power button will not turn it back off so the only way to turn it off is to unplug it.

Explanations and attempts:  This originally occured a few months back.  I assumed the lamp was dead and so ordered a new one.  But lo and behold the new lamp does the same thing.  What's more, the warranty also expired a few months back.  The only thing I can find as suggestions to solve the problem are to do a factory or lamp reset, which I can't seem to do without a display, or to blow the dust out of the machine, which I tried and it didn't help.
Is there anything left for me to try?

I have also the same problem for a year now with my 2200 projector with 200 lamp hours.
Sometimes it works for a few weeks and then it refuses to start a few days again... every time it's a lottery when we want to see a movie :smileysad:
I cleaned the unit a few weeks ago (almost no dust) and it seemed to help, but I think it's something else, because now it's dead for 2 weeks...

Why is Dell not responding to this questions?

Yep, I have the same problem and Dell is not helping since it's out of warranty.  This is one reason I hate buying Dell stuff that you can't get repair from anywhere else.  shheeeessss....
