1409X Projector and throw
Got a problem that Dell Support was unable to assist me with. I have a new 1409X projector installed in the rear of a small auditorium/classroom. The ceiling is too high to permit moving the projector so that is out. The distance from the projector to the drop down screen is approximately 25 feet. The screen is 8 X 8.
Issue: When zoomed in to it's max, the display spills over each edge by about 1 foot. Changing settings does not help at all. This projector is rated to throw at any distance between 3.3 and 39 feet, so we're obviously within that range. But there is no documentation as to screen size as it relates to throw distance.
Question: Would adding a long or short throw lense help?
Thanks in advance for your assistance. If an answer can't be found, I'm returning this projector in favor of an NEC.

I looked up some of the specs for the projector you have at <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell> and it says that screen size goes from 2ft to 25ft, just above the projection distance (throw) shown as 3.3 ft to 39ft.
- So I guess that there is a correspondance between the 2.
Assuming that the screen size is on the diagonal, then the screen size you have is 11.3 ft (root2 x 8ft), so well within the specification of the projector.
Have you tried zooming the projector more to get all the image on the screen?
- You say that you have, but if you are within the distance specs, then I think you should be able to zoom the lens in so that it should fit on the screen you have, and then focus for the image.
Also, is your laptop or source that you are projecting from a 4:3 aspect ratio or a widescreen 16:9?
- If it is set for 16:9, then you could be loosing parts of the picture because of that (because the projector is a 4:3 aspect ratio.)
- So you might want to look at the settings of your video source as well.
If this doesn't work for you (but I think it should) then you could try using some projection software that can be set not to use the entire projected image because of spillover.
- I use a package at church called EasyWorship that allows me to say that the projected image is too big for the screen and to tell it not to use the whole resolution (i.e. put a border round it.)
- This can project powerpoint slides from within it.

I think that I might have tracked down your problem, and I think it is that you don't have a big enough screen.
According to page 18 of the 1409X users guide, available from
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
, for a projection distance of 23 ft a screen with minimum diagonal size of 160.6" is needed (13.38 ft) and you are at 25ft with only an 11.8ft diagonal screen.
According to the chart, if you went for a screen with a 17.2 ft diagonal (i.e. 12 x 12 ft) then you would be ok to project from upto 29.5 ft.
So I think you need a bigger projection screen.
