1201mp making noises on power up

We have a 1201MP Projector. When we turn the power on, it warms up and displays the Dell splash screen as if it was not connected. Then the picture seems to scramble a little and flickering then just dissapears. Then it will start to hum and on occasion sounds like I'm trying to crash the Enterprise into an asteroid and are about to kill us all. Anybody have any similiar problems or any suggestions on what might be going wrong with this thing?
