Unable to do data recovery with Dell Backup and Recovery
I had a unrecoverable IDD error and replaced the drive. I had the basic version of Dell Backup and Recovery installed (sorry not sure what version) and had created Factory Recovery Media and full Data Backup on an external USB drive. When I installed the new drive, I was able to boot the USB drive which initialized the new drive and loaded the factory media. It then rebooted without doing the data recovery. When the USB booted up again, it did not start with data recovery, it started reinitializing the drive again -- so once it was done, I finished the Windows setup and tried using Dell Backup and Recovery from WIndows. I upgraded to Premium version of DBR so I could do system backup after recovery - may have shot myself in the foot there?
When I ran Dell Backup and Recovery from Windows, it first wanted to create Factory Recovery Media (it didn't realize this was a recovery situation). Once I got that stopped, I tried a full Data Recovery - ran 12 hours, accessed the new IDD -- but no files loaded. I then used data recovery and selected files (Data Recovery said there was no system backup but I was able to select an archive and select files). No data was written until I used "Overwrite Files" option -- then I got my subset restored.
SInce then, I have tried the same method -- Data Recovery, select archive, select files, "Overwrite Files" option - the program runs and reports the number of files processed in the Log - but no files are loaded. I did notice during the process that "Read-Only" flag is set on the folders -- I tried resetting that from Users directory down but not sure it worked.
Sorry this is so verbose but I'm not sure what information is relevant. I have a working computer but can't restore the data I thought I had backed up. Any ideas what to look at or where to start?
