Office 2010 will not install on Inspiron 3000/Win 10

Trying to install an unused legit copy of Office 2010 Pro on a brand new Inspiron running Windows 10. Charged the battery, did the Windows updates and then attempted installation of Office. It failed with the green progress bar stuck at the extreme right side but no button available for "ok", "finish" etc - had to close the dialog using the red cross, which then rolled back the installation.

Tried again after turning off the print spooler and setting to disabled, then a clean boot & disable McAfee real-time protection + firewall. Office still failed to install.

Uninstalled Office 2007 Pro from another PC and tried to install that on the Inspiron. Exactly the same problem.

What is going on?
