Database wdb file won't transfer to new computer...help

Ok, I have a small office and just bought 3 new Dell machines.  We have a very basic database I created with works, using my older machines, that is vital.  I have tried to copy the file to a disk, and also attach it as an email.  Whenever I try to load the database file with one of the new dimension 9150 winXPpro machines, I get an error message that says the file is damaged and unable to load.  It tells me to try backing up an original.  I can not open the files at all.  I have two new laptops that also have works on them they are sony vaio, I have used the same exact disks and email attachements with the database file on it with these laptop machines and the data loads right up.  What is going on?  Is works 2006 different somehow? Is this a glitch from the factory?  All 3 machines came the same day.  I need help.
