The Mac OS is locked to Mac hardware. Some people hack it to install it on Dell hardware but its not recommended and definitely not supported. If you want something like the Mac OS you can install Linux since its essentially a commercial version of Linux.

Windows 8.1 is recommended on this system and the system should have been shipped with Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 has a terrible user interface by default and this should be amended following the instructions here:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/a-clean-install-of-windows-8-1/customising-windows-8-1/

Although Windows 7 has a better user interface, Windows 8.1 will perform better and you won't need to download >200 updates. Moreover in late summer all Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 computers will be auto-updated to Windows 10 (which fixes the Windows 8.1 user interface) so there is little sense in performing a full OS installation to get to Windows 7 and not worth the price of a separate Windows 7 license for only a few months of use.

If you are curious, you can install Windows 10 Technical Preview:

You are recommended to make Recovery Media with Dell Backup and Recovery as instructed here before installing another version of Windows or Linux:

In that case install Windows 10 Technical Preview, the Windows 8.1 drivers should work with Windows 10 in most cases (or they will be inbuilt). See here where I demonstrate an installation:

Theres no point in buying Windows 7 or 8.1 for only a few months use. Windows 10 Technical Preview users are likely to get a discount to the RTM or perhaps even a free upgrade...
