Why won't paper feed properly?

Dell S2830dn Smart Printer

Dell S2830dn Smart Printer

I recently purchased a Dell s2830dn printer to replace a Dell b3460 that I had used in my home office for the last 10 years. I really like the Dell printers so I was excited when I found a local business that had this s2830 which was still brand new in the box and they had a price on it I could not refuse. I set it up in the same manner as I had had my previous Dell- I purchased 2 auxiliary paper trays so that I could hold a full ream of legal paper and a full ream of letter in addition to the incorporated tray 1 which holds ½ a ream. The printer seems to be functioning properly except that whenever I try to set tray 2 as the default and pull from that tray for letter size paper it will invariably tell me there is a paper jam. When I remove tray two I will find a page partially fed into the printer from the bottom side but it is not getting completely through tray one. I don't see any obstructions and if I print from tray 3 (which is on the bottom of the stack) then paper is fed into the printer and the printer works properly, but when printing from tray 2 it will always fail. Can anyone help me figure out why paper is not properly being picked from tray 2 and fed into the printer?

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.  Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.
