V313 does not detect color ink in cartidge
Greetings! My V313 just started telling me that my color ink is low and the cartridge needs to be replaced. I just put a new cartridge in 3 days ago, it printed fine then, and I have barely used it. I put in another brand new, unused cartridge and the V313 tells me that it is low on ink as well. I tried to pint in black only (another new cartridge) but it just gives me the "color ink low" message and will not print. I have been through the instructions on the Dell trouble-shooting web site; and have reset the printer to no avail. Of course, I checked both cartridges to make sure that all wrappings had been removed and that they were properly seate.
Why does the V313 think the ink cartridge is low when it is not? Thank you for any help.

Mike,
You may have a cartridge with a bad sensor. You can try a replacement, it may or may not work. I have heard from some members that some generic brands do work, but I do not post brand names, in cas ethey do not work, then no one can say I said it worked.
I have tried refilled cartridges in the past and the print quality was not as good as expected. I usually try to purchase High Capacity Dell Series cartridges and they last a very long time, for only a few dollars more.

Follow-up: I contacted the eBay seller about the problem, and he promptly sent me instructions to resolve the issue. On the upper face of the cartridge at the center is a small green rectangle. In the center of that is an almost microscopic gray line. I gently scratched that with an x-acto blade per instructions, reinstalled, and it works fine.

VeniVidiDejaVu,
Some generic ink cartridges work and some don't. There is a sensor in the Dell Series ink cartridges.
If the printer cannot read the sensor, then it thinks the printer is low on ink. It may work until the ink cartridge is out of ink, but if the printer stops operating, the ink cartridge would be the first place to look.

Rick: Thanks for the uber quick response! Yes, these are generic cartridges by G&G purchased on eBay; but I have used them before with no problem. In fact, the first one I installed early this week worked fine for awhile. But, after reading several of your responses on the community forum I suspect that you know exactly what you are talking about. I will request a refund and purchase Dell-blessed cartridges.
Thanks again,
Mike

I put in a new color cartridge but it doesn't recognize it.

I am no expert n computers or printers, just a bozo who had a problem. Her is what I would do if I were you:
My post above say: "Follow-up: I contacted the eBay seller about the problem, and he promptly sent me instructions to resolve the issue. On the upper face of the cartridge at the center is a small green rectangle. In the center of that is an almost microscopic gray line. I gently scratched that with an x-acto blade per instructions, reinstalled, and it works fine."
So, first contact the seller and tell them of the problem and ask for solutions. This is your best bet, and is what solved my problem.
Second, search the Internet for something like "how to hack an ink cartridge." I did and it brought up a number of possibilities. But contact the seller first and ask what may resolve this issue. Good luck!
Mike
