Problem Connecting Networked Printer

I have a new Dell XPS 27 and I am trying to install my networked Samsung printer. The printer is attached to a Netgear NAS through a USB port. The NAS is attached to my wireless router through an Ethernet cable. I downloaded the Samsung Windows 8 universal printer driver since the installation disks I have for the Samsung printer are only good through Windows 7. The printer is shown in the printer list and I can see it as attached to my NAS on the network. But it remains sleeping when I try to print a test page. I don't think it installed correctly as a network printer, although I used the same steps (but with Samsung installation disks) under Windows 7 on my old computer. Any suggestions?

I tried downloading the driver and installing as a networked printer again, but using the server\\printer option for choosing the printer and this seems to have worked. I can now print to the printer.

I tried downloading the driver and installing the printer again, using the \\server\printer option and this time it worked. I can now print.
