When I print out a paper in black and white, only some prints but it is very light.  No words will print at all. I have callibrated, cleaned print heads, took out and reinstalled the dell ink cartriges.  I dont know what else to do.

Hi lionness91,

Blank pages or light prints may be caused due to any or all of the following reasons:

  • Improperly installed ink cartridges.
  • Depleted ink.
  • Print Head failure.

Below are few steps that we can try in this case:

  1. Re-install the ink cartridges. If the cartridges do not seem to fit, make sure the Print Head is properly seated and re-install cartridges again.

  2. Try using an alternate Cartridges to duplicate the issue. We would be able to localize it to a depleted cartridge, if the alternate cartridge help you print fine.

  3. Load plain paper.

  4. From the printer control panel, press Menu button.

  5. Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Maintenance, and then press OK.

  6. Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Deep Clean Print Head, and then press OK. A cleaning page should print.

  7. Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Align Printer, and the press OK. An alignment page should print.

    Note:
Do not remove the alignment page until printing is finished.

  8. Select a higher print quality from the printer software. To select a higher print quality:

    1. With your document open, click File Print.

    2. The Print dialog box opens.

    3. Click Preferences, Properties, Options, or Setup (depending on the program or operating system).

    4. The Printing Preferences dialog box opens.

    5. On the Print Setup tab, select a higher quality setting.

    6. Print your document again.

  9. Ensure Firmware is updated to the latest version from the link: http://dell.to/13SF1D7

    1. Make sure that you have selected the correct Operating System before you proceed to download the firmware.

    2. The Print Head should be removed and the lid needs to be closed before you upgrade the firmware.

    3. After the firmware upgrade, install the Print Head and try printing.

  10.  If the above mentioned steps do not resolve the issue, you may consider replacing the Print Head service kit.

I did have a similar problem. If I change the colour to dark blue, it prints fine.

Now I get the tops of the letters missing on random lines.
