P513W printer not accepting wireless signal from pc's

Our P513W printer will not print wirelessly from any PC in the house EXCEPT when the computer is freshly booted. A command to print stays in the printer queue, if I reboot w/ the file still in the queue, the document will print as soon as I reboot the pc. Any ideas on solving problem appreciated.

Steve in CH,

In the last batch of Windows Updates, Microsoft installed Internet Explorer 11. IE11 had been causing printer problems.

Open Internet Explorer, click on Help, then click on About Internet Explorer. It should show the version there. If you have IE11, then go to control panel, Windows Update, Installed Updates, look for Internet Explorer 11. Click on Internet Explorer 11, uninstall.

Restart the computer, when prompted. Then see if your printer works.

Uninstalled IE 11 on 1 of our 3 pc's & was able to print multiple docs. Installed IE10 & was still able to print multiple docs. Appears IE 11 was the problem! Will now try solution on other pc's.

Steve,

What virus program and firewall are you using?

Printer wired or wireless?

Can you run Network Interface and post the information back here?

Rick - thanks for the reply. I'm running McAfee antivirus, & our printer is running wirelessly, both from our desktop pc, which is connected to our combined wireless/internet modem & our laptops which access the Internet thru the wireless router.

Here is our Network Interface info:

There is 1 interface on the system:

    Name                                                : Wireless Network Connection

    Description                                     : Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC

    GUID                                                 : 62236bb5-8744-48d4-a5ea-9aaac7ed2895

    Physical address                           : 88:25:2c:c1:6c:df

    State                                                 : connected

    SSID                                                   : WEST1143

    BSSID                                                : 00:12:0e:6c:90:d9

    Network type                                : Infrastructure

    Radio type                                      : 802.11g

    Authentication                              : Open

    Cipher                                               : WEP

    Connection mode                        : Auto Connect

    Channel                                           : 6

    Receive rate (Mbps)                   : 18

    Transmit rate (Mbps)                 : 18

    Signal                                                : 100%

    Profile                                               : WEST1143

Hosted network status  : Not started

I hope this info is useful & you have a workable solution for us. It's pretty frustrating, having to reboot our pc's everytime we place a file in the printer queue!

Steve,

You need to change the settings in your wireless router. WEP has connection problems and can be hacked in less than 10 minutes.

Try using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier. Do NOT use WEST1143

Here is an article with pictures...

Setting up/Troubleshooting a Wireless Network Just go to the line.

Once your network is corrected, then...

Run Delete Print Jobs to remove stuck print job(s) from the queue, then restart your computer.

Start, control panel, programs and features, your printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

With the computer online, insert the Dell Printer disk, choose new installation, network and follow the instructions. It will prompt you to connect the printer using the usb cable, then find your network and ask for the password. When you disconnect the usb cable, when prompted, you should see the WiFi light showing the printer is connected.

You should also see increased speeds while online.

Also try reading...

Allow a printer past McAfee

Thanks again Rick. Have made all suggested changes w/ the combined modem/router, plus removed the printer software & re-loaded it, all following your & Dell's directions. The printer problem remains. When I ask the printer to activate  from "sleep" & print a document, the printer awakens, makes its usual noises of moving the print cartridges in place, then just stops - the printer dialog box shows the document as "printing", but nothing further occurs. If I shut down the pc & reboot it, the document in the printer dialog box immediately begins to print, even before the desktop fully appears.

So, I hope you have another suggestion to try. This certainly is frustrating, as the printer has been a great one - until it started playing this new game!

Thanks, Steve

Steve,

There was a model, not sure which one, that they needed to wake the printer before it would print. It was like sleep and it would not wake up.

Thanks again for the quick reply, Rick. However, that's not our problem w/ our P513W printer - it "awakes" when we send a document to it, you can hear the print heads move into place, then everything stops! Hope this is fixable, tho I'm beginning to wonder . . .  Steve

Steve,

What does the new Network Interface show?

If you did not try this, I would remove McAfee using the McAfee Removal Tool then restart the computer.

See if you can print.

Then reinstall McAfee

Cannot view the new Network Interface using either method. Receive this message: The Wireless AutoConfig Service (wlansvc) is not running.

OK. Uninstalled McAfee, re-booted, tried to print - same problem. Have re-installed McAfee now, & problem remains. When I attempt to print a document, the wireless Dell P513W printer awakens from sleep, printer cartridges move into place, then everything stops, & the document stays in the printer dialog box.

Also, I was able to print the new Network Interface - here it is:

Hope this info helps & you can see a solution to this baffling problem.

As always, many thanks. Steve

Steve,

Open Notepad. Copy the information I have between the lines

=================================================

ipconfig /all > "%userprofile%\Desktop\ipinfo.txt"
arp -a >> "%userprofile%\Desktop\ipinfo.txt"
notepad "%userprofile%\Desktop\ipinfo.txt"

=================================================

Save as ipinfo.cmd

Right click on it, left click run as administrator.

At the bottom of the list, see if the ip address of the printer is listed. You may have to wake the printer first.

If you find the correct ip address, if you enter the ip address in your browser, Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, you should get to the printer page. Trying to see if you can access the printer, when it's awake.
