One column of cyan not printing

I have a C1765nfw Color MFP printer. A single vertical column fails to print the cyan colour. It's just one column, about the 3rd from the left, ~0.5cm wide, and it's only cyan that does not print. Cyan prints fine on the rest of the page, as do all other colours and black. The problem has persisted through multiple cyan cartridges, so it's not the cartridge. I print to this printer from multiple desktops/laptops, and it always exhibits the same problem, so it's not the sending computer.

I'd be grateful if anyone has any suggestions about what the cause of this problem could be and how to fix it.

Thanks

alanbundy,

Clean the printer heads and update the printer firmware. You can also click the link below to download the online manual for troubleshooting and resolving issues.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've followed the instructions in the manual to clean the printer heads, but it's made no difference. I've also downloaded the latest firmware onto my desktop, to which the printer is attached. Running it caused a request to unzip some files, which I did. It's not clear whether I have to do anything else, as I could find no instructions on updating firmware in the manual. In any case, it made no difference - the 0.5cm column of cyan is still not printing.

Would it make sense to put some kind of solvent on the pads of the cleaning stick? I suspect that some dried ink on part of the cyan print head may be blocking the ink, and that the unaided cleaning stick is not sufficient to remove it. If so, what kind of solvent should I use?

ALANBUNDY,

I do not have any information on putting solvents on the cartridges. It is best to replace them with new ones

I was not suggesting putting solvent on the cartridges, but on the pads of the cleaning stick, so that I could more effectively remove any gunk from the print heads. There is no problem with the cartridges. This problem has persisted via several changes of cartridges, so the problem must lie inside the printer, probably on the print heads as, as you implied in your earlier post. Just the unaided cleaning with the cleaning stick has failed, so something more serious is called for.

Perhaps you were meaning to replace the print heads. There was nothing in the manual about how to do this. Do you have advice?

alanbundy,

I have no information for replacing the printer heads. Call the Dell Printer Support at the link below. The part would need to have a tech replace it.

That being the case, it seems my best plan would be to experiment with solvents on the cleaning stick, starting with mild ones, then if I end up damaging the prlnt heads, get them replaced.
