Old Dell drivers on Windows 10
I'm a student and I'm trying not to spend money on a new printer but I was given a Dell Photo 966 with lots of extra ink cartridges. Unfortunately the latest OS supported was Windows Vista and I'm on Windows 10 of course. I followed all the instructions I could find on the Dell help forums for getting these to work but cannot get the drivers to install correctly.
Steps I followed:
-Made sure there were no previous drivers installed
-USB is disconnected from the computer
-Downloaded Vista 64-bit drivers
-Set compatability mode on the .exe to Vista (tried Vista SP1 and SP2 as well)
-Ran the setup as administrator
-Followed the setup until it tells me to plug the printer in
-Turn on the printer and plug in to USB 2.0 port, setup automatically detects it and continues
-Setup seems to be working but when it gets to the end I get a pop-up saying the drivers could not be installed.
What do I do? Can anyone give me tips on getting old Dell printer drivers properly installed on Windows 10? About to go Office Space on this thing which is a shame because All-in-one printer that I got for free.
