Need to print wireless from a Dell 3115cn multifunction printer

Hello,

I have been recently given a DELL 3115cn multifunction printer from my brother-in-law,  (who didn't need it anymore), but, he lost the installation CD. I found some drivers off the Dell support website, and now I can get the printer to work nicely from my desktop PC with the USB cord, but I also would like to print wireless.

I believe that the wireless adapter may be already installed, as I can get my router to assign my printer a IP address, (I have since switched it so that the printer as a fixed IP address), and I can reach the Web Configuration Tool.

However, how do I get my windows & desktop and laptops to print wireless without the installation CD?

Thank you very much to whoever took the time to read this, I would greatly appreciate any response to this!

Hi PConrampage,

To connect the printer to the network, plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the back of the multifunction printer, and the other end into a LAN drop or hub.

Please refer the topic “Networking” from the link given in my previous post.

Hope this helps!

Hi PConrampage,

In order to print wirelessly the printer should have a MPC (Multi-Protocol Card) and USB WLAN adapter installed.

Please check if the printer has both of them, refer the topic “Removing Options” from this link: http://bit.ly/TchhUi

If the printer has both of them, please follow the steps for “Wireless Installation” from the above link.

Please post the results.

Hi!

Thank you very much for replying.

I'm afraid it looks like I have neither the MPC or USB WLAN adapter. I opened up the back, just as your link directed, and I saw nothing that looked like a MPC. There was a slot with the letters NIC over top , but it was empty. I ran a system settings report, and the MPC was not listed under printer options.

Now, I'm a little confused, does this mean that I cannot connect to my network at all?? Is it possible that my printer could be wired to my network (say with a CAT5e cable to my router) and so I could still avoid using a USB cable?

Thanks for you time,

Thanks very much!

The printer works great wired into my network, via my router...I have all my laptops and my desktop printing smoothly, hooray!
