ios 8 update causing URF ERROR Airprint not working

After updating iPhones and iPads to Apples ios 8 Airprint not working. Printer works beautifully with my 5S which has not been updated and still runs on IOS 7. Are there any firmware updates for the B1165nfw laser printers coming soon to correct this problem?

Unfortunately, according to the manual for your model (see link below) this method will only work on a PC.  I think some models will let you put the file on a USB stick and connect it to the printer but I couldn't find any information on how to do that for your printer. If you don't have a PC you could borrow a friends laptop just long enough to install the printer software and update the firmware.

Hi atanner35,

You can't select the Mac installer if you're already in an update utility, you need the actual firmware file in this case it's an .hd file.

You didn't specify which printer modal you have, but since  you're referring to my previous post I assume you have the B1165nfw.

Click on the following link (only if you have the B1165nfw) and download the zip folder, unzip and you'll have the .hd firmware file.

downloads.dell.com/.../B1165nfw_A03_V3.70.01.15.zip

Now go back to the firmware upgrade wizard found in the web interface of the printer (point the browser to the ip address of your printer, make sure you log in, if you never set a password, the default user name is admin and password is del00000, and click on the Maintenance tab, you'll see a button "Upgrade wizard). Now click browse file and select this .hd file you just downlaoded, and it should do the trick.

Note: the previous link is found under the Windows OS section, although you have a Mac it shouldn't be a problem since the file only contains the actual firmware of the printer, and it's not tied to any OS.

For the AirPrint setting click on the Settings tab and select Network Settings, you should see AirPrint on the left side. It should be enabled by default.

Good Luck. Let us know if you got it to work, so other Mac users should know what to do, for some odd reason Dell didn't post the new firmware in the Mac OS section.

Just read on the Apple forum  Dell is working on a software update to fix this problem.  I'm in hopes this is true.  We purchased our printer a few months ago FOR its Airprint.

Hello JMYROCKJ,

AirPrint on iOS8 is does not currently work correctly with our 1xxx series monochrome printers. AirPrint will detect these printers, but cannot print to them. This will be resolved in a future firmware update. The impacted printers are:

  • B1163
  • B1165
  • B1260
  • B1265

Customers can use the Mobile Print App for Dell, which is available through iTunes, as a workaround until the firmware updates are available.

Regards,

Joseph E

Hello JMYRICKJ,

You can keep an eye on our support at support.dell.com and viewing the your specific model. Under firmware keep an eye on the release dates. You can also sigh up for automated alerts when new releases come out, you will find this on the landing page of each model.

Regards,
Joseph E

Hello,

There have been some questions regarding where you can locate the alert on the support page to receive automatic alerts. Please see the screen shot below to sign up for the emails. You will need to click on drivers and downloads then driver update notifications.

Regards,

Hi,

sorry, but i´m very disappointed that the B1260 advertised as an ipad airprint printer just works to the next IOS update.

It does not work with IOS8.1 and your mentioned Mobile Print App for Dell isn´t working too!

It is impossible to get a code via email, which is required to start Mobile Print.

What is the solution to get the printer running? I´m using my IT-stuff for work so I need the printer!

"sorry, but i´m very disappointed that the B1260 advertised as an ipad airprint printer just works to the next IOS update."

You can't honestly be disappointed with Dell over this...it wasn't a Dell firmware update that broke airprint; it was an Apple iOS update which did. We bought 4 (count them, 1, 2, 3, 4!) b1260dn for the sole purpose of airprinting to them from our iPads. We updated to iOS 8, and now we have 4 oversized paperweights. We never once had an issue with airprint to these printers before the update to 8.

It's so like Apple to break something with an update and then leave it to each individual manufacturer to come out with new firmware to accommodate. I've essentially CAPS-LOCKED myself hoarse on the Apple forums about this, but Apple can't even be bothered to admit there's a problem.

Although I can't really fault Dell on this one, it's clear Apple isn't ever going to do anything about it, so how about that new firmware? Any word on an ETA?

11/10/2014:

I purchased the B1265 over other printers for ONE REASON...AIRPRINT.  iOS8 was released more than 5 months ago to developers (June 2, 2014).  5 months is more than enough time to release a fix for this issue.  Hopefully I can find a good deal on an HP printer around Black Friday.

Please hurry up with the firmware update to support air print, Air Print was the only reason I bought this printer, it's already a long time since the iOS 8 update, and I'm already frustrated.

Any ETA when it'll be released?

Strangely the only thing that prints through Air Print is from the native Notes app, go figure

I just tried using the Print to Dell app and it's not detecting my printer (Dell B1165nfw) automatically nor manually.

Running iOS8.1.1 on iPhone 6
