Installing 926 on Windows 7
I can't get my 926 Photo printer to install with Windows 7 64-bit system. I have downloaded the 64-bit Vista driver, and ran it in compatibility mode, but I can't get past the step of where I plug in the printer and turn it on. I plug in the USB cable and turn on the printer, but the "Next" button is unavailable, so I can't move on with the installation. I have tried all the USB ports. All the ports work for other devices and the printer and cable work on our other XP machine. What can I do to finish the installation process?

I was able to install the printer.
Before trying again on the Dell Zino, I tried installing it on our Toshiba laptop, which also runs on Windows 7 64-bit operating system. One thing I did differently was unzip the driver files to the recommended location rather than desktop. (I believe I had read in another thread to unzip to the desktop so you can find the files more easily.) I ran the driver as administrator in compatibility mode just like I had done before and go to the same point of being asked to connect the printer. I did so and again was not able to click "next".
However, when I plugged in the cable, the computer automatically started searching for drivers from Windows updates. I canceled the search and after confirming that was what I wanted the computer searched the computer for the driver and was able to install.
After successful installation on the laptop, I removed the files I had downloaded and unzipped to my desktop. I then downloaded them again and reinstalled them in the recommended location c:dell/drivers . . . and then after they were unzipped, I ran the set up file in compatibility mode for Windows Vista SP2. From there installation proceeded, in the same way that it did when I installed on the laptop. I am not sure if the printer was able to be installed due to me running the installation, or the computer just automatically detecting the printer and then searching in the recommended location.
I'm just glad it works now!
Thanks for all the help!

surrab,
Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system on your computer?
Is this a Dell computer?
Operating system in English?

Rick,
The computer is a Dell inspiron zino HD. We were recently given it with Windows 7 already on it. To my knowledge the operating system was never reinstalled,
Other printers were installed, but I removed them from the system since we don't have the other printers here in our home.
Yes the operating system is in English.

Surrab,
Try this procedure and see if the printer installs.
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).
Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

I went through all those steps and still get to the same point, where I am asked to connect the printer and turn it on. I do so, but the program won't allow me to click "next." It remains grey, while the other buttons are in black.

surrab,
The printer needs to be functional, meaning you should be able to copy a document under the glass like a photo copier.
Did you try a different usb port?
Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here. I can see if I can find some drivers that may solve the problem.
What virus program and firewall are you using?
