e525w not scanning from top doc feeder
I have issues scanning over a network. The e525w is connected via Ethernet and when I initiate a scan from the printer itself (press SCAN button) -select my PC from list, then WSD scan device popup screen appears on my PC, I select windows fax/scan application -proceed with scan and the scan only initiates the scan from the glass and not from the feeder atop the scanner where the docs are located to be scanned.

TEXANMJC,
Click the link below to download the online manual for the E525w Printer. Once you have downloaded the manual start on page 201 for scan settings using WSD.

My recommendations are to read the User's Guide contents on pages 189 and 191 since it documents the supported media and how to properly load the documents in the ADF. The other topic is cleaning ADF rollers on page 274/275.
As noted on page 189 (Making Copies from the Document Glass - 2nd bullet), the ADF has the higher precedence. If the MFP detects media in the ADF, it should pull from the ADF and not the glass. You should also make sure the paper in the ADF is pushed in far enough (listen for a light sound from a plastic sensor).
If the MFP still doesn't pull from the ADF and the cleaning steps (pages 274-275) didn't help, then you may have a mechanical issue and calling Dell Tech Support is probably next best step.
Hope this was helpful.

The user guide you linked to doesn't even acknowledge wifi. I'm having the same problem -- the feeder works. It works for copying. It is not dirty or broken. It just doesn't work when scanning.

I am having a similar, if not the same, issue as Barthway. I use Adobe Acrobat XI Pro to scan. I just purchased the E525W and while the ADF works locally (i.e. scanning or copying at the printer) and when using the supplied Dell interface on my Windows 10 machine, the ADF will not activate when using Adobe - it always goes to the flatbed. This is a real pain, since I use Adobe for its flexibility in scanning quality, OCR, downsampling, etc. when scanning very long documents.
I have used Adobe operate scanners on probably 15 machines over the years and have never had this issue.
I called Dell Tech support, but the tech I had was not able to help.. only suggested that I use the Dell interface - which is not robust enough for my purposes.

I have the same issue, and found below link to change the scanner property. Maybe this will help you:
