E525W Makes terrible grinding sound when printing but no codes
My E525W Printer is making a horrible grinding sound when printing over the last few weeks and appears to be spewing a bit more Magenta toner than normal. It is not throwing any codes and the print quality appears OK.
I have removed/replaced all cartridges to no avail. The sound definitely sounds as if it is coming from around the toner area and with the additional Magenta toner spewed into the cartridge bay it would appear that something is going on with the Magenta cartridge or the Magenta mechanism inside the printer. I did replace the Magenta toner cartridge which then leaves me to believe it is inside the printer.
Printer is roughly 2 years old and has worked reasonably well over that time in our home office printing about 11,000 pages to date.
Any ideas or suggestions on what I can do to troubleshoot?

When I have a problem with my printer, the first thing I will do is install the latest printer driver for my printer. You can download Dell E525w driver from Dell Support or here > Latest Printer Drivers. Hope it can help you.

I have the same issue, now with the added problem of it's not printing at all. A loud grinding noise, as though gear teeth are clashing. I cleaned, as per the page 295 instructions you mentioned. Nowhere in the instructions do I see how to disassemble the unit to locate the exact source of the problem. Please advise how to disassemble.

I had the same problem and solved it by re-seating the ink cartridges. If you are using non-Dell ink cartridges (as I do), they may not seat perfectly. If that doesn't work, try replacing them.

It is a common problem due to a drive gear in the printer meeting resistance from the gear in a toner cartridge. Replacing all the cartridges usually fixes it. This is expensive so here is how to diagnose which cartridge is bad.
Try to print. You will hear the grinding sound.
Open the right side panel, exposing the toner cartridges.
Feel each cartridge. The bad one will have a vibration from the gears stripping.
Remove the bad cartridge. This will turn off the drive, and the noise will stop.
The printer has a small white gear in each cartridge compartment. Check the gear in the empty compartment. It should move freely in on direction, and with slight resistance in the other direction. This can also help reseat the gear internally.
Replace the bad cartridge with a new one. Your printer will work noise free now.
