Dell V515w fax/printer - says "Line in use" when line is NOT in use
I'm hoping someone can tell me what to do to get my Dell V515w to work. I have tried to send a fax and it scans properly but when I try to send the fax it says "Line in use" but there is a dial tone on the phone line. What can I do to make it send the fax. It is not connected to a computer, it is a stand alone fax connected to a phone line.
Thanks for your help!!

MARYPOW,
Sending Faxes
Loading original documents on the scanner glass
Open the top cover and place the document facedown on the scanner glass.
Close the top cover.
Loading original documents into the ADF
Customers can load up to 35 sheets of an original document into the ADF for scanning, copying, and faxing. They can load A4, letter, or legal-size paper into the ADF.
Adjust the paper guide on the ADF tray to the width of the original document.
Load the original document faceup and top edge first into the ADF until you hear a beep.
The document feeds into the ADF.
Tips for sending faxes
Before sending a fax:
Sending faxes using the printer control panel
Sending faxes using the computer
Configuring The Fax Settings
Customers can configure the fax settings through the printer control panel or the fax software.
If the customers configure the fax settings in the printer control panel, then the fax software imports those settings. The changes appear the next time the fax software is launched.
The printer also saves the settings choosen in the fax software, unless the customers set the printer to block changes made from the computer.
Configuring fax settings using the fax software
Before asking the customer to open the fax software to configure the fax settings, make sure that:
If your customer want to configure the advanced fax settings, then click Configure the advanced settings in the Fax tab of the Printer Home. This launches the Printer Setup Utility.
Configuring fax settings using the printer control panel
Configure the fax settings using the selections in the menu:
Set the printer to scan before dialing so that you do not have to scan the document again if the fax fails. The scanned document is saved in the printer memory. The printer can then retrieve it and automatically redial the number.
If you set the printer to scan after dialing, then the printer does not automatically redial, even when the phone line is busy.

Hi marypow,
Thanks for posting.
Apologies that your printer is not working as expected.
The manual shows different scenarios for plugging the printer into different types of phone line systems starting on page 57. Troubleshooting starts on page 112. Here are some tips to check first:
Connection checklist
• Make sure that the printer and other devices on the line (if applicable) are set up and configured correctly according to your setup scenario.
• Make sure that the cables are connected to the correct ports.
• Make sure that the cables are securely plugged in.
Check the cable connections for the following hardware, if applicable:
Power supply Answering machine Cable modem Splitter Telephone VoIP adapter DSL filter RJ-11 adapter
• If the printer is connected to a Digital Subscriber Line, then make sure you are using a DSL filter for the printer.
• If the printer is connected to a VoIP adapter or cable modem, then make sure that the printer is plugged into the
first phone port.
• If you are using a splitter, then make sure that you are using a phone splitter. Do not use a line splitter..
