Dell s3840cdn Change Network Name
Hello, My school just set up four Dell s3840's. I have them configured so that their device name is different and when I add them to laptops I give them a name based on location in the building. However, I have a lot of staff looking to use the AirPrint feature or possibly other mobile printing features. The printers all come up with the same name so it's very difficult to distinguish which printer is being sent the document. On the web login screen, it shows the custom name I've given under device name, but the printer, but the printer name at the top is the one that shows up under AirPrint, which is the same for all 4. Any way to change this?

That is for configuring wifi. This printer is connected through ethernet and only has ethernet or USB connectivity. I did go into the ethernet settings through the web tool, however there is nowhere to change the name displayed on AirPrint devices so all 4 printers show up the same. I can change the device name, but that doesn't change its name on the network. This image shows the difference from the top of the web tool.

Awesome! Glad you were able to resolve it. Your post did not indicate you were using Apple Computers.

I thank you for the reply. But the manual explains how to set up Wifi and Ethernet connections to the printer. I know all of this and do it often. I can easily name the printers anything I'd like on a laptop or desktop in that standard setup that the manual covers.
My question is specific to AirPrint. If I have 4 of the same Dell printer in a building, their names come up the same on the AirPrint screen on an Apple device such as an iPhone. There's no obvious way to rename them and changing the device name in the web manager does not change their AirPrint displayed name.
I know I could look at page 148 of the manual for the section on AirPrint. However, this isn't an issue covered in the manual or anywhere else I can find.

Apple support was just able to give me a very simple answer that worked. You need to go into the web tool, connectivity, and click Bounjour. Then change the Bonjour broadcast name. That is the fix.
