Dell Photo 944 won't install under Windows 10 Home

I have been lucky and have managed to install the drivers for my Photo 944 on my old Dell laptop after upgrading to windows 10 professional, clean install. I used the advice given patiently and repeatedly by the forum, clean old drivers, use compatibility mode etc.

But my laptop is dying. I have replaced it with an Inspiron 3847 desktop and I can't get the printer drivers to install.

I use the R147291 x64 setup program, and get to the point of plugging in the printer, but the program won't detect the printer.

So far I have tried the following... Disconnect from the internet, turn off Windows automatic driver installation, disable the fire wall.

I can still print using my old laptop so I know the printer and the usb cable are fine.

Can anyone guess what is stopping the driver setup from detecting the printer?
