tldr:
printer shows this error when printing from computer or from within its own menu:
load tray 1 024-965 Printer Letter
and this error when trying to copy:
Illegal settings this is unavailable when tray (no paper) is selected
I've tried some things, to no avail. There is paper in it but I don't know why it isn't recognizing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The story:
This printer was brought to my attention originally because when copying (in black only even), the resultant paper had color toner on it. Almost like in waves. When I arrived to help the user showed me the process used prior. In doing so it popped up saying magenta was needed. Thankfully, there was magenta right there. I add this part in because I wasn't totally convinced that it needed it (and that maybe some sensors were awry). After putting in the new toner it then said the yellow toner needed the tape removed. Weird, because it was "working" before. So I took it out and lightly tapped it against the floor which had paper covering it to catch any loose toner. Some black came out. It then said cyan needed the tape removed. Repeated the process and some black came out. I ran another copy and again, color. When I opened the front I saw that there was color on a shiny black rectangular piece (ink roller perhaps?). So with a tissue I gently wiped it off. I also wiped off the scanner bed with a damp paper towel (just in case there was toner dust on it). I also used canned air in it which created a small plume of black toner. Tested again and same thing. Now, I noticed that every toner cartridge had black toner on the bottom lip of it. In a spiky fashion. So I googled some things and it was suggested somewhere along my way to test the toner motors. I tried..something. It seemed that the test worked. I turned off the printer and then held the up and down arrows while turning it back on. Then navigated the menu to something I can't quite remember at the moment. It was under IOT diagnostics or something like that. If it's important I can try to re-trace and post later. Anyway, I get everything back on and the way it was. Now though, it won't print at all. It thinks the paper tray 1 is empty. It isn't. And it won't pull paper from any other feeder even though they work (tested). I now receive this error when trying to print from the user's computer or from within the status report section of the printer: load tray 1 024-965 Printer Letter and I get this error when trying to make a copy: Illegal settings this is unavailable when tray (no paper) is selected. I have no idea what happened. Again through some research I guess there is a paper sensor that moves with the paper alignment in the paper tray. That seems to move fine. I'm not sure what to do now. It doesn't look like there are any updates for it and I know it's old but I was just wondering if there was anything I could try? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
