Dell E525w network configuration 169.254.x.x
Hello everyone,,
I have a Dell E525w printer that's connected to my network by Ethernet. I do not use the wireless connection to the printer. Despite this, I get a printer instance on my Windows 10 system with an IP address in the 169.254.x.x range. I've noted in other posts that this occurs when a network connection cannot be made.
I have printer instances with the Ethernet connection, and the printer is working fine. I would like to stop getting the 169.254.x.x instance, but I have not found any way to prevent it from showing up. I'm fairly certain that it is because of the wireless connection that I am not using (and I have disabled wireless on the printer itself).
Any advice??

Hardus1,
The 169.254 IP Address is a communication problem with wireless connections. In many cases, rebooting the wireless router and the device allows the connection to be made, again. Since you're using Ethernet, you cannot use the wireless connection. It's wireless or Ethernet only. If the printer is wireless, you can print from a wireless device and you can also print from a computer using the Ethernet connection.
Please read how to turn the wireless off in this post...

Hello Folks,
I have a E525w as well. It used to print documents very well from my Surface 3 running Win 10 via the Wi-Fi connection. Today I tried to print but it would not work. I then connected a USB cable from the computer to the printer but that did not work as well. When I open the "Printers & scanners" function in the Win 10 Settings it shows three "Printers" that have "Dell" in the name. They are "Dell Open Print Driver", Dell Open Print Driver (PCL XL)" and "DELL6E831". I seem to remember that before I would always use the "DELL6E831" but now it and the other two do not seem to work. When I create a print job it gets spooled into the "DELL6E831" Print Que but it does not seem to go to the printer because it does not print even after a long time and when I try it again it just makes another print job in the Print Que.
I can open the "Dell Document Hub" on the computer and it connects wirelessly to the printer. I can view the "Status" of the printer as "Ready to print" see the levels of toner and Media status. I can also request that various "reports" be printed from the browser pages of the printer and it prints those just fine.
What do you think is the issue? Is there some new drivers that I should load for a Win 10 update that may have been installed on the computer?
I look forward to getting this issue resolved so that I can use my printer again.
Thanks
