Dell C1765NFW will only work if turned of and on again from Deep Sleep

After looking around the forum, this seems to be a constant problem on various printers, incuding mine

I have the Printer connected via network running off a server, it all connected fine, my trouble is that after it goes into it's deep sleep it won't print, even if i wake it by pressing the menu button etc, the only way it will re-connect is if I turn it off and on again.

I've updated to the latest firmware via the dell website and have the latest drivers, does any one know how to fix this bug

cheers

I just contacted Dell because my fax wasn't working on my C1765NFW.  So the tech had me do the following reset to fix the fax problem....and IT CURED THE SLEEP/WAKE-UP issue too.  Hope this helps someone else like it did for my machine:

1. Turn off the printer.

2. Turn on the power while holding down Left, Right, and Menu keys.

3. Release these keys when "CE Mode" and "Password" is displayed.

4. Press Up arrow twice and press Select (or Check Mark).

5. "CE Mode", "Printer" and "FAX/Scanner" are displayed. (Entered the CE Diag. mode.)

6. Press Select (Check Mark) on "Printer".

7. Press Down to "IOT Diag" and press Check.

8. Press Down to "Installation Set" and press Check.

9. Press Down to "Clear All NVM".

10. Press Select (Check Mark) twice to execute the test.

11 Power cycle the printer to return to the regular operating mode. (this step should happen automatically)

Once this is done, you have to re-set your basic settings (language, time zone, phone number, fax name, etc).  But that is a MINOR inconvenience.  My machine is now running like brand new!

Hope this works for you.  Good luck!

Usually,  this problem can be solved by upgrading to the latest firmware.

I recommend contacting DELL technical support. A friend experienced this problem and they solved it via remote connection. My friend said that it worked and didn't have to go through the same error once again.

We have the latest firmware on the device and it still does the same thing.

The driver that Windows 7 installs automatically (when adding a new printer) causes this problem. For me, the fix was:

1/ Start > Devices & Printers > Right click on Printer and select "Remove device"

2/ Install the printer driver from the Dell website.

That's not going to resolve the issue.  The printer won't even wake up, even if you go over to the printer and press any of the buttons.  It is comatose.  It matters not what driver is on the client computer.

FYI, we are using the Dell driver.

I am having the exact same issue.

Even if I start a continuous ping to the printer after 15+ minutes the ping drops every packet and the printer goes into limbo deep sleep mode.

IT should be called OFF mode because there is nothing you can do to wake it.  I have updated to the latest firmware and drivers (10/2014) with the exact same results.

This is crazy and seemingly a simple firmware fix if Dell would allow it.

I assume everyone has this issue- if not then maybe my printer is faulty.

I just bought my printer. I have the same problem. Won't wake up, no matter what button I am pushing. Hopefully someone at Dell will see this forum and posts a solution.

Same problem with a 10 month old C1765NFW w/extended warranty, has had the problem for a couple of months, after getting tired of recycling power whenever we want to use it. I called Dell and started the supprt process. A new (refurbished) printer was sent out quickly. I powered it up, logged it in to the wireless network, printed a couple of test pages. It stayed up for a full day, checked it's front panel buttons when I went to bed last night and it was fine, when I got up this mornng it was unresponsive. Excact same problem as previous printer which is still sitting in the room boxed up ready to go back. Even the interval between working and not working is identical. I've sent an email to the person working the issue we'll see where we go from here. When it works it has been a decent printer and I can put up with quirks but there appears to be a problem with this model. I will quickly tire of being the product tester if we get into a regular printer shipment/replacement routine.

"Clear all NVM" was located in a slightly different menu position on my sister's C1765nfw, but once I found it and carried out the steps, her problem appears to be fixed! Thanks so much!
