Dell B1265dnf with chromebook
I am trying to get my Dell B1265dnf work better with our Chromebooks. I have set it up on my Pixel Book and it works as a printer to some extent although control of margins, page selection can be a bit hit and miss.
All to often I need to sign and return documents so to be able to use the scan functions would be useful.
Can it be done and, if so, how?

Yes, it's possible to use the scanning function of your Dell B1265dnf with your Chromebook. Here are the steps to set it up:
Connect your Dell B1265dnf printer to your local Wi-Fi network. This will allow your Chromebook to discover and connect to the printer wirelessly.
On your Chromebook, click on the status area in the bottom-right corner of the screen (where the time and battery icon are located). Then click on the Settings icon (gear icon).
In the Settings window, scroll down and click on "Advanced" at the bottom.
Scroll down to the "Printing" section and click on "Printers".
Click on "Add Printer".
Chrome OS will now search for available printers on your local network. When your Dell B1265dnf appears, click on it and then click "Add".
After the printer is added, click on it in the list of available printers and click on "Manage".
In the Printer Management window, click on "Scanner" in the left-hand menu.
Click on "Add Scanner".
In the "Add Scanner" window, enter the IP address of your printer (you can find this by printing a network configuration page from the printer). Make sure the protocol is set to "SANE".
Click "Add".
You should now be able to use the scanning function of your Dell B1265dnf from your Chromebook. Open the app you want to scan into (such as Google Docs or Drive) and use the "Insert" menu to choose "Scan" or "From Scanner". The Chromebook will automatically detect your Dell printer as the scanner and initiate the scan.
Regarding the issue of control over margins and page selection, you may want to check the settings on the Dell printer itself to ensure they are configured correctly. The printer may have a default setting that is overriding any settings you are making on the Chromebook. If you are still having difficulty, you may want to contact Dell support for further assistance.

Thanks. The printer is not wifi enabled and is connected via ethernet.
I have tried to follow your instructions however the menu options are not as you describe. Trying to install a Scanner enables an autodetect which fails. There is no apparent option to manually configure a scanner.

I have tried to scan using that printer on 2 Chromebooks. The same issue exists - I cannot manually configure the scan app. It simply tries to auto detect.

Dell sent me an upgrade to status on this forum for doing nothing so I thought I would resurrect this issue. Our study/office has been converted back to a bedroom following retirement so it has become even more difficult to use the printer by direct connection. Therefore it is important that I get it working wirelessly or it is headed for recycling and I'll buy a cheaper, wifi enabled model (won't be Dell either).
@vishvajitd - you have not responded to my comments about the printer not being wifi enabled. Are you able to help further?
@everyone - anyone got a suggestion on how I get this printer working without ditching it.
