Dell AIO v525w installation problem
Recently my computer experienced a major meltdown from which there was no recovery other than a fresh reinstall. I then restored with an old image that required a lot of updating and reinstallation. I haven't had any other trouble, but for this printer, I have received the same error messages over and over. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and then I decided to try the most recently available software from the site, with the same result. (The firmware update went fine, thankfully, although I hadn't planned to update it.) Win 7 Professional SP1 64.
Dell Fax Drive:
Driver Management concluded the process to install driver FileRepository\dkfx1n40.inf_amd64_neutral_3dda0eb6a05240c9\dkfx1n40.inf for Device Instance ID ROOT\PRINTER\0000 with the following status: 0x490.
Dell V520 Series:
Driver Management concluded the process to install driver FileRepository\dkadgq40.inf_amd64_neutral_91a160ccf4ecc4a8\dkadgq40.inf for Device Instance ID ROOT\PRINTER\0000 with the following status: 0x490.
If anyone is able to shed some light on this, I'd be grateful. I don't want to make a support call, because the last one (not for the printer) was a comedy I'm not prepared to live through any time soon (although I did save the logs if I need a laugh some day).

Hi RhondaLea,
Uninstalling and re-Installing the drivers in the prescribed manner and starting the services necessary for the scanning application could resolve the problem.
Follow the below steps to reinstall the printer drivers in prescribed manner.
Please disconnect the USB cable that runs from the printer to the computer and uninstall the printer driver by using uninstaller software. Here is a link to download one.
http://revouninstallerpro.com/
Install the software and uninstall the printer driver using the Advanced Uninstall option from the software. It is third party uninstaller software used to uninstall the drivers/programs from the computer.
The software prompts asking you to delete the Registry keys corresponding to the printer driver. Select all and delete them. Restart the computer to remove any traces of the printer software.
Perform the steps below and ensure that the services required for the printer to work are started.
1. Press the “Windows + R” to launch the run window.
2. Type “Services.msc” in the run window and hit the Enter key.
Right click each service mentioned below, click properties. Set the startup type as “Automatic” from the drop down menu and click “Start”. Please click “Apply” to save the changes.
The services to be enabled are:
•Human Interface Devices (HID).
•Printer Spooler.
•RPC (Remote Procedure Call).
•RPC Locator (Remote Procedure Call Locator).
•Windows image acquisition (WIA).
•Windows Installer.
Insert the printer driver’s cd for V525W and install the drivers in the computer.
If you do not have a cd use the following steps to download the printer drivers.
Download the printer driver from the link: http://dell.to/12FCJ6X
NOTE: Please do not connect the printer using the USB cable to the computer prior to installing the drivers.
Please copy the above mentioned link, paste it in the address bar of the new internet explorer window.
1. Select the operating system of your computer from the list.
2. Save the file to the desktop.
3. Double-Click on the downloaded file.
4. Click “Yes”, when the utility prompts to extract the files.
5. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
6. Connect the printer using the USB cable when prompted.
7. Try to print.
Please reply for further help.

Hi Nikhil,
I used Revo to install everything, including the printer, so using it for the uninstall is not a problem.
I meant to get back here to delete that post because the event viewer error was caused by Google Cloud Print, which is not working, period, in the current stable version of Chrome. (I tried everything, including turning off NOD32 and Windows Firewall, and my print job still couldn't get through. After becoming totally distracted and fixing every other error in the Event Viewer (seriously--even the Adobe SidebySide error is fixed), I installed Cloud Print for Windows. It works perfectly, so I purchased a license. Even if Google fixes Chrome tomorrow, I won't go back, because Cloud Print for Windows is perfect.)
With that said, I'm still having a few other issues even though I previously installed precisely as specified in your post (using the new drivers rather than those on the installation disk). I'm about to give it another whirl, so I'll post back after the next iteration of the uninstall/reinstall routine.
In the meantime, I do have one question. I already own a license for Abbyy FineReader 9 Professional, but I cannot figure out how to install it so the printer looks for it instead of FineReader 9 Sprint. When I first purchased the printer, I tried removing Sprint, and all that happened was that I could no longer scan PDFs from the printer (although I could still scan them from Acrobat and FineReader Pro). I would like to be able to make the substitution, so if you know of a way, it would be great (and Abbyy will be happy because I'll then upgrade to FineReader 11 Pro).
Thanks for the help.

Hi Nikhal,
Wow. That was amazing. I am embarrassed to admit that the use of "precisely" in my reply to you was not...precise.
I made the assumption that because I haven't changed any of the services settings (per BlackViper) that they would match your instruction, but they did not. After uninstalling the whole mess and then reinstalling precisely (this time for real) as you told me to, I now appear to have a perfectly running printer installation.
You're my hero.
Thank you so much.

Rhonda,
If you decide to reinstall the printer, please run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue. A stuck print job will keep the problems you're having, no matter if you uninstall, then reinstall. Please make sure to restart the computer anfter you uninstall.
Abbyy FineReader Pro will NOT work the the printer software. You'll need to install Abbyy Fine Reader from the printer disk.
If you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.
Without knowing if the printer uses the Dell All-In-One Center, Dell Imaging Toolbox or Dell Printer Home, you may have to Update list of applications to send scans to Dell Imaging Toolbox does NOT have this feature.

Hi Rick,
Thank you for that bit of information about Abbyy. It's a nuisance, but I'll live with it. As for the rest, please see my following post to Nikhal.
Thanks again,
Rhonda
P.S. I have Dell Printer Home, but the instructions you linked to do not seem to apply to my printer. Fortunately, I'm able to scan directly from Abbyy Pro and Acrobat, so the only real nuisance is having Pro and Sprint installed together.

Rhonda,
I tried the trial version of Abbyy Pro and also found out that it did not work with the printers software. I also did not like using Abbyy Pro, so I uninstalled it. I did eventually find the printer disk and installed the older version from the printer disk and it works with Dell Printer Home.
If you open Dell Printer Home, Documents will be greyed out.

Hi Rick,
The way I have it set up is to use Abbyy Pro separately. Sprint is also installed to satisfy Dell Printer Home, but Abbyy Pro works just fine as a standalone application.
For the record, working with Acrobat 9 is fraught with danger because it doesn't like to scan from the flatbed (no problem with the document feed, however). Changing the settings to use the native interface fixes the problem. (I spent a lot of time googling to find the answer to that one.)
The printer/scanner really is working perfectly now. I'm really thrilled with it. I only bought it because it was on sale at the time and thus $40 cheaper than buying replacement print cartridges for my older printer, but it is doing a fine job for me.
Thanks again,
Rhonda

Rhonda,
If you Update list of applications to send scans to and locate the AcroRd32 in the C:\Program Files (x86), Adobe, reader. reader, AcroRd32
Tell it pdf, then use Dell Printer Home or scan from the printer, it will download the applications list, and it will scan directly and conver it to pdf.

I tried to follow the linked instructions earlier, Rick, and they do not work in my version of Dell Printer Home. See above for my settings menu. I have looked at every possible menu option, and there is no option to update the applications that I can see.

Rhonda,
I see your version of Dell Printer Home is different from mine.
I open Dell Printer Home, click on settings, I see....
I then click on Scan Destinations and I see...
Hopefully there is a way to update your list of applications to send scans to.
If not, maybe DELL-Nikhil D can access the online documentation and find out how to add or bring up the list of applications to send scans to. I don't have access to those documents, but working together with a Dell Employee that does have this information, I'm sure they can find the answer.

It would be great if there were a way to do it, Rick--I was able to choose the applications for my 944, and I liked that--but as of this moment, the printer is doing everything I ask it to, so I'm really very happy with it.
If Nikhil has a magic wand to wave, though, I'd love to hear about it, and I'm sure that it will be of help to someone who finds this thread later on. (I know from experience that older threads are very useful--it has saved me several questions over the years since I gave up my Mac.)

Hi Rick,
Sorry it took me so long to get back. I installed some bad software and had to do a lot of fixing, so everything is delayed.
I looked at page 59, but I'm not having a problem scanning to email. I don't use the feature, but I've tried it, and it works just fine.

Rhonda,
