Dell AIO 924 - Windows 8 compatability

I have an old AIO 924 which has been working happily for 6 months with a new Windows 8 laptop.  Last week Windows exploded (or something) and I had to revert to the ex factory state.  Since then I have been unable to persuade any printer driver to install.

Does anyone have any suggestions please

Bob,

Hopefully you installed the chipset drivers for the clean installation of Windows 8.

Let's ,ake sure Norton was removed. Run the Norton Removal Tool then restart your computer.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed.
Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 8 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 8 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Dell 924 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Since you're using Windows Defender as default, try reading...

Allow Printer past Microsoft Essentials/Windows Defender

Rick, you're a godsend!
I really don't know what the problem was before - maybe the firewall.
Anyway, thanks very much indeed for your help.

Greybeard0151,

When you reverted back to Windows 8, did you use a recovery partition or do a clean installation?

Hi   Rick.

A clean installation.  The fault only allowed me to see one screen telling me the computer needed repair.  Even F8 did nothing   :emotion-6:

Bob,

I suspect the problem may be because if this is a Dell Computer, the Dell System Software(if applicable) and the chipset drivers are not installed first, the computer will not know what is installed on your computer. This will cause some of the usb ports, wireless adapters, webcam and some other devices to malfunction. Once this is solved, I can help with reinstalling the printer, but will need to remove the stuck print job(s) in the queue or the printer problems will remain.

Just to clarify, This is not running wirelessly  -  is this info still useful?     (sorry,  I'm a bit of an ancient monument and am quickly out of my depth)

Rick,  The computer is not a Dell (sorry!)

Under Control panel/Devices and Printers, AIO924 is shown stating
"Driver is unavailable"  I have tried installing from the original
disc and also from the Dell site (R148156 andR153714) but nothing seem
to be accepted.
Having said that, I see that none of the Dell printer software is in programs.
Oddly enough there was no problem in installing  when I first tried
it last April
