Dell 725w OCR software

Hi- I had to rebuild Windows on me Dell Vostro.  I loaded my Dell 725w drivers and software but there was no OCR software so Scan does not allow me to scan or email a document.  The message says to load the OCR software from my CD.  I have the original CD but cannot find the OCR software.  Can you help?

Thanks!

Go here and read #5. The OCR software is on that CD somewhere.

Hi Rick,

Your advice about loading the drivers in the correct order worked.  I followed the instructions and the printer is now scanning again.

Thanks for your help.  Rock Star indeed!

Art,

See if this helps...

If you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Rick,

Thanks for the response.  I found the original disk and loaded the OCR software.  But now I have another problem.

I loaded the latest software from Dell.

Dell_V720_Series_ADI_Installation_Package

Dell_V720_Series_ADI_Win_64_HBP (Yes I have Windows 64)

Regardless whether I load one or both of the above I have the same problem-

I select scan from Dell Printer Home.  The "Connecting Scanner" box pops up.  I hear the printer head click when I the box appears  But then nothing.  The "Connecting Scanner" progress bar does not move and the printer does not scan.

I've uninstalled the software and reinstalled one or both, no difference.  I did try to load my scan profile but I also receive an error on the printer.

This all happened after I had to reinstall Windows, drivers, etc.  I used the Dell reinstallation disk that came with my Vostro 470 and downloaded the drivers from the Dell Web Site.

Help!

Hello,

I select scan from Dell Printer Home.  The "Connecting Scanner" box pops up.  I hear the printer get ready to scan  but then nothing.  The "Connecting Scanner" progress bar does not move and the printer does not scan.

Printing is not an issue.

Art,

A couple of things.

When you reinstalled the operating system, did you install the Dell System Software (if applicable) and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the Dell System Software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

The printer should be able to scan from the printer and/or Dell Printer Home. Not sure if the list of applications generate itself or you have to add them manually. Try reading Update list of applications to send scans to if you need to add them manually.

Is the printer wired or wireless? If you're using the printer wirelessly, a desktop that is attached to your network can print directly to the printer using the wireless connection because it is plugged into the ethernet port of the wireless router.

Rick,

Thanks for the advice.  I doubt I installed the chipset drivers first.  I will install in the correct order.

The printer is wireless (725w) and connected wirelessly.  I have no issue printing wirelessly.

The service tag is 5H360S1 s there are critical updates but they fail every time.  The files download but the extract fails.  This is a constant issue.

Thanks for the advice. I will let you know the outcome. Any other advice is most welcome. The printer is 2 years old and I should not be having the issues that constantly occur as you can see from my posts.
