Dell 570 Printer?
Hi,
Am helping someone install a new printer: Canon Pixma MP280.
Everything going fine until I try and set this printer as the default / get the pc to recognise the model - it won't.
The Dell 570 only shows MP270 when you ask it to update its printers; it doesn't go up to 280 (but why?) & so of course can't set the new printer as the default. It's stuck on the old default printer, that printer no longer working.
Help appreciated!
Thanks,
Ric

Better to post this in the Peripherals/Printers forum HERE, this is for Desktop Hardware.

Ric,
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.
Make sure the printer is not usb cable connected.
Start, control panel, programs and features(add/remove programs) Cannon MP280 printer, uninstall.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Insert the printer disk or download and install the drivers from the manufacturers website. After you install the drivers, you'll be prompted to connect the printer(powered on)
Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

Thanks Rockrtar,
The 570 recognised the printer model about an hour after I ran the 'add new printer' programme. I went to do a test print and by then the Canon had appeared in the list of default options :)
It's being installed because the Dell owner had tried to free a jammed Canon PIXMA IP4200 by pulling a piece of A4 paper backwards out of the rear tray, because it was crumpling asit it was going through. This seems to have upset the (rear) paper load operation. I am going to try and fix it because we can't find anyone these days who will take on printer repairs, only computers.
Any advice before I dive into the printer appreciated!
Thanks again,
Ric

Ric,
My printer has two tabs in the back to open the duplex unit, so I can clearany paper jams.

Ah, this is useful, thanks - if I can access the PIXMA at the back it might get me closer to the roller which has presumably been pulled out of position for the back/top paper feed?

kr236rk,
You may even be able to take the paper tray out to get to it.
