Dell 2360dn add paper to MP feeder error

even though the printer is set to Tray 1 as default source, it says "add paper to mp feeder, even on single page jobs.. I factory reset it and now It is fine. However I've had to do this 3 times now in 2 months. Any ideas to keep this solution permanent??

I think it's similar to an issue I ran into. The printer settings are getting changed by documents you open in office. It doesn't always happen but every month or so I open something that has page settings set to print to legal paper. Once I do that it overwrites the printer settings and changes it. Then when you go back to print it says please put paper in Manual Feeder for anything you try to print moving forward.

The fix is easy but I haven't heard from dell about a permanent fix. If you push the wrench on the printer (settings). Push OK on the first option Paper Menu, then hit the right arrow to get to paper size and push OK. It should be on Tray 1 already so push OK. Once here the problem is it's been set to something other than letter. Arrow thru the options until you get to letter and push OK. This should fix the issue temporarily. Within a few weeks the setting will probably get overwritten by something and you just follow those steps to fix it again.

This only affects USB printers. It seems like network printers don't have that issue. Still waiting on Dell for a permanent fix.

Thanks for the solution. It does work. I would like to update your final statement about it only affecting USB printers.  My printers are networked and have the same problem. This is the only thing that fixes it for me right now. It is very frustrating for the teachers who depend on this printer on a daily basis and work in classrooms with 30 computers needing to access one printer.

I work in IT support for a healthcare company. We use dell 2360dn exclusively for desktop printers, I run into this error on a weekly basis. Is there a permanent fix from Dell on this issue yet? It is starting to become very annoying.

What FW version and driver are you both using? Also when you print using office and set to legal scenario does the failure occur every time? Or is it just random? Dell may not be able to repro the issue unless they have a distinctive way of replicating it each time. Perhaps if you could provide exact steps to replicate.

I have the same issue with a B3460dn.  Documents change the paper size.  Networked printer using print driver : Dell_Printer_Driver_v2_UD1_PCL5_A00 and firmware : NH41.CY.N454

There was no password on the web interface - I have just applied one and locked the settings page to see if that helps.

A permanent fix would be great.

Any ideas?

I have 15 of these printers. Dating back a few years and only 3 have shown this issue. 2 are usb, 1 is networked.

the others without the issue are a mix of USB and networked  on firmware: NH5.CY.N543. drivers are the B2360d/dn Laser Printer XL driver. and i think a couple use the v2 driver also.

I have a case open with Dell ProSupport who suggested updating to the latest firmware: NH61.CY.N634

and factory resetting after the firmware update.

This has "worked" for 2 (no issue reported by users) but not for one other.

After flashing i used these instructions to factory reset:

  • Turn printer off
  • Press and hold Right and OK while turning printer on
  • Release both buttons when the progress bar appears.
  • Once the POST is done it'll enter config mode.
  • Press right and choose restore factory defaults
    • restore base- restroes all non critical base printer NVRAM settings-- i choose this as my Dell guy didn't specify which to select
    • restore STD Net- restores all network NVRAM settings
  • The printer will restart several times during this process
  • once finished, power cycle the printer to return to Ready.

Also having the same issue. Have yet to find a permanent solution to this issue. Tried the suggestion by mjm, however that was unsuccessful.

in my situation, i kept having to feed the mp with the envelopes even though the envelopes were there.

what i did is i went to microsoft word -> envelopes -> options -> printing options ->

feed from:

change it to

Multi-Purpose Feeder.

it began printing envelopes correctly instead of me having to feed the printer manually.

hope this helps
