Dell 2155cdn stopped printing

My printer has been working for months.  For the past few days it has been beeping at a regular interval.  A green light by the ! symbol on the front is constantly on.

If I press the back semi-circular arrow the led shows Print [Processing] with four dots cycling across the screen and "LPR" on the bottom.

When I send a document to the printer it doesn't print.  The Windows Printer window shows the status as Printer Busy or Error.

I've power cycled the printer several times, but that has never cleared this problem.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for how to fix this problem.

HI DWSCHULZE,

Have you thought about updating firmware?

1. Update Firmware:
Many customers have reported that the LPR Communication Failed status is resolved by updating the Print Server's FirmWare.

This problem just started happening, so it doesn't seem like a firmware problem, but I could try and see if it helps.  How do I update firmware?

I was able to get one job to print by shutting down the printer and starting it with the check and right arrow button held down, and then pressing cancel.

I am having the exact same problem, and the firmware update did not fix the issue. When we try to print something, it will say "processing" and never print.

Hello PMLTX,

Thank you for posting to the forum. If you have completed the firmware update and still have issues then is likely something caused by the sending computer. Try removing the data cables from the printer and powering it off/on. With it only plugged into power go thru and print several of the reports from the menu on the printer panel. If those all print out ok, then your hardware should be fine.

Complete an uninstall of the older print drivers from print server properties, once that is done restarted the computer and reinstall the printer new. This should resolve the issue.

Regards,

Joseph E
