Dell 1250C Color Laser printer Win 7 installation Problem

I am pulling my hair out!

I am unable to install the above printer to my win& 64bit PC

This is a brand new printer.

Windows sees device burt reports unknown USB device.

I have uninstalled this from device manager and have tried installing via my installation disk.

The installation starts but never finishes it  becomes unresponsive.

I have downloaded Dell Driver R282562 unzipped file but cannot see a setup icon just a list of files?

Please can someone guide me.

Hi Steve,

Please try the below steps.

  • uninstall the existing driver/application
  • Restart the system
  • Start the installation through the disc.
  • At  this time printer need not be connected to PC
  • During the installation there will be a prompt to connect the USB cable and that’s when the cable has to be connected.
  • Try a different USB port this time.

Welcome to Dell community. Please find the instructions mentioned below.

Custom Instructions for R282562.exe:

To install PRINTER DRIVER in Win 7:

1.    Unzip the file to any location in your PC
2.    Plug in Printer USB Cable
3.    Access Start Menu -> Computer
4.    Right Click “Computer” and choose Properties
5.    Click Device Manager->Other Devices
6.    Right Click Dell 1250c Color Printer then choose “Update Driver Software”
7.    Select “Browse my computer for driver software”
8.    Browse for the location of the unzip file
9.    Follow on screen instructions to complete the installation

Hi Harish,

Thanks for your reply.

I am unable to do this as Windows just reports device as unrecognised when I plug USB, Dell 1250C is not shown in Device Manager .

Device manager just shows Unknown device in USB Contollers.

I have followed Dell advice for using compatible mode Vista SP2 to install but still no joy.

I have installed Latest Java 32 bit and 64 Bit

Hi Harish,

   I am pleased to report problem solved.

The installation disc still did not install, progress bar got to about threequarters accross then nothing, which was happening before!.

This time at this point , I did try another usb port on PC and Dell driver was installed by windows.

I cancelled disk installion via device manager as it was non responsive.

I have rebooted my PC today and the 1250C is seen in my printers and is working.

14 months later I had the exact same issue... The printer driver sort of installs even though the install program crashes and hangs...
