Cannot install drivers for AIO 924 Printer

I have recently bought a new PC running on Windows 8 (took me a while to get used to it!) and wanted to connect my Dell AIO 924 Printer/Scanner to this new PC.  I followed the advice given - Settings-Change PC settings - Devices - Add a Device.  I put the Driver & Utilities CD belonging to the printer into the DVD/CD-Rom.  When  I check on Devices I can see the AIO 924 listed but it says Driver is unavailable.  I have also tried installing it using Control Panel- Add a device but after searching it just says no device found. It detects that I have a scanner linked to the Pc but not a printer.

jean9,

Try this procedure and see if it works...

To the best of my knowledge, Window 8 is not supported for this printer. You can try this, it may or may not work...

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed.
Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 8 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 8 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications. If no virus program was installed, then Windows Defender is the default virus program. Try reading, Allow Printer past Microsoft Essentials/Windows Defender

Hi Jean9,

This printer has not been tested with Windows 8. The drivers for Windows 8 are not available for this system. You may refer to the link for a compatible printers tested by Dell with Windows 8 http://dell.to/15iGlgi

You may try to install the printer driver in compatibility mode. It might work:

  • Download the driver from the following link http://dell.to/Z2X6a6
  • Right Click the driver installation file and select Properties -- > Compatibility Tab.
  • Select Windows Vista from the list in the following image

  • Click Apply -- > OK
  • Right Click the file and select the 'Run As Administrator' to install the driver

Please reply in case you have further questions.

Thank you for your post regarding my Dell 924 printer.  I tried what you suggested but couldn't quite work out what to do, so I tried another way.  Unfortunately it doesn't appear to have worked so it looks as if I will have to sell my printer and get another one which is Windows 8 compatible.  I wish all computer stuff was compatible - would make life a lot easier and save the need to sell a printer that was working perfectly well.  Thanks again.
