C1760nw error 193-700 - "Non Dell Toner" setting not working

Using a Dell C1760NW color laser printer with the original toner cartridges are still installed.  Printer is running latest firmware (18.05).

Printer reported black toner is low (through printed output still appears dark).  Then, printer refuses to print with message "Replace the Black Cartridge.:093-933"

So, I enable the "Non Dell Toner" setting.  The printer restarts and then shows error "The Cartridge is not supported. Unable to detect details.:193-700".  Windows will not print, with message "No Toner/Ink".

I toggle the "Non Dell Toner" setting, and the printer goes back and forth between errors.  Windows refuses to print in either state.  It appears the "non dell toner" setting does not work as intended.
