962AIO printer lower exit tray

Where are you Rock Star Rick? Can you help me? I have a 962 printer that I love--has worked great for years--now display reads "lower paper exit tray, press select". Lowering tray does nothing. Took it to a shop--they said maybe the sensor is bad but apparently replacements are not available. Surely this is something mechanical that can be overridden--there must be some work around. I don't want to pitch a whole printer because of one tiny glitch. Help?

Sparky107,

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. This will reset any error messages the printer is getting.

While the printer is unplugged, remove the lower paper try and look to see if something is jammed or if there is a swithch there. Look around for any type of paper jam. Put the tray back in and plug it back in. It sounds like a stuck piece of paper and/or the switch may have gotten stuck.

This is for Rock Star Rick--you are a gentleman and a scholar, and a GENIUS. Thank you for your idea on my 962. I was at the end, ready to pitch it, and I knew there was no paper jammed in there because I checked with a dental mirror. You were my last hope, Obi-wan, and you really came through. I don't know why it worked, but it did. Thank you so much!

Sparky107,

Glad you got it working! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back.

Was there something with the paper tray?

Sparky107,

Not a lot of information in the manual. Your Dell printer was made for Dell by Lexmark, but you'll probably won't find much there.

Thanks for sharing.

Take care,

Rick

I had already unplugged the power block, but was afraid to try to take the tray out for fear of breaking off the plastic pins. Well I got it out as you suggested and it worked. [hallelujah!] I haven't put the tray back in but just knowing it will print is enough. There was no paper blockage and I still don't know where the sensor is or if it is electronic or mechanical.I tried to find a service manual online, but could only find user manuals, which didn't help. Thanks, I was really on the verge of giving up. Truly are you worthy of your name, Rock Star Rick!
