I installed 8.1 and it lost the driver for my Dell a 960 all in one printer.

Which to use and where to get it please.

shakeyy,

Philip asked me to help. I was a little busy yesterday, sorry for the delay.

I have no guarantee that this will work.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed.
Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 8.1 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 8.1 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications. If you did not install any, then Windows Defender is the default. Try reading...

Allow Printer past Microsoft Essentials/Windows Defender

This has been moved to the printers forum.

The latest driver on the Dell ftp website is for Windows Vista 32 / 64 Bit:

http://ftp.dell.com/published/Pages/dell-960.html

Install this, it should work on Windows 8.1. Pick the latest 32 / 64 Bit installer depending on your version of Windows 8.1.

Thank you, I did as suggested and now have suggested driver,R153052, in my OS in three locations. everything appears normal and printer status reports working correct but all attempts at printing in win 8.1 say driver not installed. If there is a further step to install driver I do not see it.

ITS WORKING

Seems like all-tho I had d/l that driver and saved it multiple times. It never showed a setup that I could install as administrator, did this time! The only thing different was cleared cache using cut/chase method suggested instead of normal method. does not compute but thank you, Philip and Rick, it worked.
