1720 Toner Problem
I have a 1720 laser printer that has worked well until recently. About a year ago, I installed a new Dell toner cartridge, which has recently begun to show streaking on the left side of the page (see below). This printer is not used a lot... perhaps a thousand pages in a year. I tried getting a new drum but the problem was exactly the same. When I inspect the toner cartridge, I can see lines of toner on the transfer surface that match the output problem. I've tried cleaning the cartridge, agitating it, cleaning the inside of the printer, etc, all to no avail. Is this just a defective toner cartridge or is my printer kaput?

Based on that, I would say defective cartridge. Testing another cartridge would be the only way to verify if the previous cartridge were the fault or not.
