1320c Windows 8 failure

I have tried everything and the 1320c will not run on Windows 8.1.  This infuriates me.  I have to switch to WIN7 when I want to print in color.  I have it set up on my network.  This sort of thing always happens when the OS is altered.  WIN 8.1 runs well, however.

I have a Lenovo running Windows 8.1 and a 1320c.

This solution worked great:

  • Download windows 7 driver from DELL and UNZIP it
  • On control panel, Add Printer
  • Select "My printer is not listed", or similar
  • Enter the printer IP
  • Uncheck " AUtomatically select driver"
  • Click on "Have Disk"
  • Find the driver you just downloaded.

Done!

Use this driver, downloads.dell.com/.../1320c_DRV_ENG_01-01-05-00_01-01-05-00.exe, select the correct platform either x86 or x64. I've had the same issue and the instructions in this thread have worked for me. Windows 8.1 x64

Hi

I also have problems getting my 1320C to work on windows 8.1 - when I send a document to the printer, it starts op as usual - but after a few seconds it starts blinking, as if there is paper jam - the printer is on the LAN, and I can print from windows 7 from the other computers - even though it's indicating paper jam...

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Best regards.

I had this problem. Windows default driver for this fails to work. If you automatically install this printer, Widows chooses the wrong drive, one called "Dell 1320c HBP". You must, instead, download the Dell driver for Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit depending on your system), then absolutely do not allow Windows to select the driver but do it manually, you'll find it works a treat on Windows 8.1. It's not straightforward to do this as Windows insists on choosing the driver so take care. If I remember I had to click "Add Printer" then "The printer I want isn't installed" option rather than choose the Dell 1320c as offered automatically. You then need to manually add the IP address for the 1320c and choose the driver - which is in the file from Dell called I think Drivers > X64. If you are stuck email again and I'll go through my installation again and note what I do as the above is from memory.

Your suggestion works. Here's my experience with trying to install drivers for 1320c on a Lenovo laptop running Win 8.1

1. Win 8.1 recognized the printer over the network and installed the 'Dell 1320c HBP' driver. This installation worked for me, except that the driver is very basic, it doesn't do duplex printing and many of the Dell driver options are missing. Duplex is especially a problem because Word 2013 (and 2007/2010) do not have an easy way to reverse the page printing order per document - its a File, Options, Advanced setting which means you have to set it and reset it every time you print - very cumbersome.

2. I followed the instructions in the Dell KB articles 572562, 589554 and 627171 on how to install Wiin7 drivers on a Win8/8.1 O/S - to no avail. The Dell provided installer exits with a 'no driver to update' message.

3. The last resort is what Scampo wrote above, which I tried and works, including duplex printing.  At least, Win 8.1 is much better at recognizing the printer at the TCP/IP port - in earlier versions of Windows one had to create/configure the port and then continue with the installation.

Shouldn't be like this, should it? Some Dell technician somewhere must just be "looking on" and wondering. I've just ordered an Inspiron 17 though - so my loyalty is unwavering! (-:

I think what is happening is that this simple Windows 8 driver is asking for paper from the manual sheet feeder (the slot on the front of the paper tray). If you feed a single sheet of paper in the slot and press the triangle "play" button it should print. I am going to try and install the Win7 driver though - I too miss the advance functions.

I find that mine regularly shows as "offline" and I have to delete it and reinstall it - a pain as Win 8 still tries to install the wrong 132oc driver.

There seem to be different solutions depending whether you're using a 32bit or 64bit version of win8.1.

On a new 64bit Inspiron 1700 series I ensured latest updates for windows were installed then wirelessly added my 1320cn that was wired into the network by right clicking Start and choosing Control Panel from which I chose 'Add printer'. Windows searched and offered a list of printers then allowed me to search the list to get the right printer (simply Dell 1320C) not even 1320CN. It the. Simply installed everything and I was a le to use full functionality from Word 2007. (I even o next to having to give up using Office 2003)

I found it all more difficult using a 32bit version on some older laptops. Here windows thought it knew best a d only offered to install a Dell1320C HBD version. After installation I tried to print a test page only to find it waiting for a single sheet to be fed in and it printed ok on this sheet. I then went into Word and was able to tell it I wanted to print from Tray 1 so it stopped waiting for SSF use. If Dells own latest drivers from 2013 were installed directly, more functionality was gained. Their latest 32bit drivers are actually only for windows 7 but seem to be able to work to a reasonable degree in windows 8.1 if installed to use with a printer attached directly via USB.

NOT my favourite company at the moment as I think it's totally disrespectful to loyal home customers to refuse to provide fully functional software for  longer than they do. Maybe large corporations that give hardware a hammering replace theirs faster (though I doubt it) but home users are lighter on equipment Nx have much less money available.

I have 6 desk tops in my office and I been using Dell 1320c for over 8 years and this is my second Dell 1320c with wireless adapter, and it is been doing it is job all those years.

I just bought Inspiron 11 3000, to Use in Flashing Cars Modules, However I couldn't get dell to work with this 2 in one lab top, After hours with Dell tech support which suppose to be free, both techs failed in fixing the issue after they downloaded driver on my PC and finally they told me I have to be transferred to printers specialists and this means I have to buy warranty on the printer or pay for the service, I hung up the phone and spent about 10 hours  figuring  this out, and finally I found the solution with out downloading driver.

The printer will not work if it keep saying Dell1320cHbp, it should say  Dell Color laser 1320c.

It is working really good now.

Yes - exactly; and those Dell technicians should know better. There is a real fault with the Dell 1320c - or with Windows 8 / 8.1. Windows 8 / 8.e selects automatically THE WRONG DRIVER, one called Dell 1320c HBP. Why it does this should long ago have been sorted out by Dell - but they haven't bothered. In that lies a lesson for us in my view (but I still like my Dell colour laser printers!).

The difficulty when installing the 1320c on a Windows 8 / 8.1 machine is in stopping Windows 8 / 8.1 from selecting the wrong "HBP" drive. The only way to do this (and it isn't all that easy) is to follow the instructions above after downloading the Windows 8 driver from the Dell website and unzipping it.

  • Download windows 7 / 8 driver from DELL and UNZIP it, noting where you've saved it
  • On control panel, Add Printer
  • Select "My printer is not listed", or similar
  • Enter the printer IP address
  • Uncheck " Automatically select driver"
  • Click on "Have Disk"
  • Find the driver you just downloaded.

The difficulty is in finding the IP address.

As of the last windows 8.1 update the Windows 7 drive no longer works.  The Dell site doesn't even have an INF for this printer anymore.

Based on this link it appears waiting "to be released":

www.dell.com/.../EN

Since the printer doesn't work at all now I'm guessing I'll have to go purchase a new one, and it won't be a Dell after this ineptitude.

I don't suppose Dell support has an ETA on when this driver will be released?

It works still here. Try reinstalling following the method I described earlier maybe? It is still a great printer with cheaply available toners.

This driver and method also works in Windows 10 x64 (64bit)

Yes - it does, thankfully. No thanks to Dell though for messing this up. Windows 10 still defaults to the wrong "HBP" driver if you don't force a manual installation choosing a suitable IP Address. It's quite unacceptable for Dell to leave us all having to go through such a circuitous process in 2015.

I've also had a fair few new problems that I thought worth mentioning here. I decided to upgrade my router to a Linksys WRT1900AC using my existing cable router purely as a modem to feed this. But... the Dell 1320c just would show on the new network. I unhooked the new router and put the old VirginMedia "Superhub" router on and, hey presto, the Dell printer showed up. So, I'm not using the Linksys!
