1130 printer constantly gives a "Paper Jam Error" message

My Dell 1130 laser printer all of a sudden throws a paper jam error message, even though there is no visible paper jam. It is definitely a printer problem because I printed a test page by holding down the cancel button for 3 seconds, which tells me that it is not a computer, software or driver problem. Here is exactly what happens. I print either from tray or manual feed and the page gets stuck 1/3 into the feed. Then the paper jam error comes on the screen. Now I turn off the printer and turn it on again and it finishes printing the page. Then 2 more pages follow which are blank and feed all the way through without interruption. Upon further investigation it looks like the paper always gets stuck just about at the toner roller.

I may want to add that the first page  always stops at the same identical spot and the two pages that follow which are blank will go thru without stopping. I am surprised how poor the responses and forum activity is here given that we are talking Dell. There must be a million 1130s out there and someone at least at Dell must know what this problem is. Is anybody at Dell monitoring this forum? I mean it can only be one of two things, a hardware problem or a firmware problem. Most likely not a hardware problem then why do the 2 pages that follow feed fine, even though they shouldn't print at all. It should only print the printer generated self-test page. Otherwise maybe the firmware got scrambled and plays tricks. This is the weirdest thing I have seen ever and I am a techie. Come on, anybody, let's hear from you.

This forum is so disconnected from reality, it probably is the worst I have ever seen. Everything is automated and therefore irrelevant and does not address the topic. You are more interested in kudos and badges and other feel good nonsense and not one live person has yet to read my post and provide a useful answer. And YES, but no thanks to any of you, I figured it out myself and solved my problem.

  • First, remove all the papers from the printer tray
  • Then reload it as most paper jams occur while feeding paper into the printer. Remove the papers from the tray, and if they do not come out easily, remove the paper from the tray slowly and make sure that there are no shredded pieces of paper left in the paper tray.
  • The next step is to inspect the shredded piece of paper between the stack, as again when loaded it could lead to the same process. Therefore, remove it from the stack and little by little put all the straight papers in the stack and put them back in the tray and close it so that the papers can be printed correctly.
  • Open the back or rear door of the printer which will allow you to access the paper path to the printer. It now has advantages in that it gives you more access to look at the rollers for shredded pieces of paper. If the rollers are slowly removed and the main emphasis here is to work calmly as the printer components are very subtle and with force you can damage the printers components.
  • You can also see the reels if they are dirty and messy, you can clean them but don’t force the reels to rotate mechanically as they can be damaged, but also if the reels are damaged you can replace them.

James

Mine does the exact same thing.

It started for me after my wife dwcided to print 100+ pages in a row.

I almost feel its a software issue now.
