WD19S, fans turn on noisy, never stops
I have a recently bought WD19S dock supporting a Latitude 5420 and connected to driving two monitors + USB.
After running for a few weeks with no noise, today the WD19S fans started up and never stop again? The WD19S is not remotely hot and there is no different use than the days before. I tried updating the firmware, but this did not resolve the fan issue. Is this a defect dock or a different issue?

Update = Resolved After completing troubleshooting, a DELL-Cares agent setup a replacement.

In reviewing this Dell article = How to Use and Troubleshoot Dell Docking Station WD19 and WD19S
Does your setup now use heavy loading or a high working temperature environment?

This dock is on my home office desk in an airconditioned room, not hot at all
The dock is connected to a laptop (that is also powers) and two monitors (that is does not power) plus two USB connections. This should be an expected load as these are the connections available on the dock

I'm having a similar issue with my WD19 (but of course the warranty ran out in August). What steps can I take to troubleshoot the issue other than replacement? Thankyou

I bought a WD22TB4 dock. The fan turns on after about 15-30min and does not shut off. It's annoying. I wish the firmware would just let it run a bit warm.
I returned the first one as I thought the temperature sensor was defective. The replacement unit does the exact same thing.

@jacob.t.nielsen agreed. Same issue and similar condition for me and others as I see reported to Dell. The docking station is not fully loaded, it is in a cool temperature controlled space, the vents are clear, and the devices connected are the same as they have been for the past two years. The solution provided here by Dell-Cares is to replace the docking station.

At my workplace, we have 10 docking stations, 3 of which have encountered the same issue. These docking stations are approximately 1.5 years old. They are maintained in a cool environment with unobstructed vents. It seems likely that this is a manufacturing defect, as 30% of the units purchased at the same time are experiencing the same issue at our location.
